Once Upon A Time in the East … Or How Our Fairy Tale Began

I have a picture on my bedroom wall, well it’s a saying really, a piece of  free downloadable art from the generous and talented Rebecca at SimpleAsThat.com and it says:

“Once in a while, in the middle of an ordinary life, love gives us a fairytale”

So I thought it was time for a little backstory to the Trumbley Madly Deeply fairy tale.

It started, as the saying implies, in the middle of my ordinary life (well at the end of a rather awful year actually, in which I had lost my Mother and my marriage had ended), one morning, on Facebook of all places.

My friend Lucy had updated her status to say that in the manner of Prince, she would hence forth be known only as YoYo. This turned out to be a reference to being up and down all morning to let her dogs out but it caught the interest of her friend JT and he in turn was amused enough to ask what he should be called.

Now it turns out that some weeks before Lucy had suggested to him that he would never meet anyone nice if he kept hiding behind pictures of robots or cartoon characters. This had prompted JT to try a series of profile pictures in such rapid succession that Lucy started teasing him about his choosiness.

I meanwhile had “seen” him around on her page, and thought he seemed funny, but had’t formed much more of an opinion, as all I could see was a big robot.

So then this conversation took place:

A few sentences, a bad joke and my life changed forever.

What this conversation doesn’t convey is what was happening in  my head. Which went something like this:

So what’s Lucy up to … oh LOL YoYo okaaaay, scroll, scroll, OMG who is that????? He is cuuuuute!

Yes my inner dialogue is shallow and  often behaves like a Warner Bros cartoon – what can I say?

OK post something funny, I know, that song lyric, hope no one else has made that joke, quick, quick post “can I call you Al”

Great no one else has said it, there we go  – hit return …….

OMG why did I say that? It is the stupidest joke ever, he’s going to think you are an idiot and really old, you might as well have said you carried the water melon.  Should I delete it?

WOW he got it! He joked back, he gets me … should I message him or is that too forward?

The rest, as they say is history  and the reason for this blog.

To be continued …

  1. You carried the water melon?! This sounds fun, but (as is so often the case) has flown over my head 🙂
